I use eboundhost and I have a open server I would just have to link the domain and setup the forum in there I have never setup a forum before but all cory would have to do is either give me the files from this site and I can simply move them to the server, if thats what you guys want to do, I think I can get the domain pretty cheap.
[Q]
EDIT: I almost forgot, I am working on the site for my company right now and will be through the weekend so if we get this figured out by tomorrow I think we could be up and running by monday, but I would need to talk to cory about it first.

What software is needed? I am already paying for the hosting as it is so thats not a problem. its just sitting there doing nothing. the only thing we would have to discuss paying for as far as I know is the domain registration fee. If we need new forum software, let me know what we have here and what we need on the new server and I will see if I have it or can get it.

on a side note your server space and traffic numbers seem allitle low for forum use. ill find out on that too...

200 megs is no where NEAR enough lol were gonna need server. (the forum software will fill that 200megs. and just think with a picture being about 1Mb it would be full in no time, and full=forum shuts down until start of following month)
ive got us a good lead already $15 a year for domain name, and 7.95 a month for 2.5gigs of space and 10
[Q]
20Gigs of bandwidth. its a small sized package as we dont need a huge forum. (less than 100 memebers probly ever)
we also get a number of email addresses, databases, easy to use control panel and more.
im waiting to find out if that comes with the forum software....

I actually like the way this one works, it has some nice features. I can upgrade my sever no problem, I can get unlimited space and unlimited traffic I have it on my other server with this company and its 19.99 a month. I don't mind fronting it either. I am already paying 10 so 10 more ain't no biggie.

ok the guy said he would also get the forum up and runnnig for free if we purchase the space from him. its up to you guys. if we can get the SQL dump from blursoft we can copy everthing from here to the new server. if not wed just have to start over.
just let me know. ill get the domain bought for us, and if we go specledx2s route once he gets the server upgraded ill get the forum uploaded.
not to be rude but you planning on being around for awhile? just want to make sure the move is permenent not temporary, i know your about to start a family and all.
well this is kinda exciting :D no more 987983769837469837 charactor website link! haha
o and remember specled. there are a few things that dont work here, ie PMs admin controls (although theyve gotten better), etc something we may want to consider when choosing our soft ware.

I ain't going anywhere and if I stop crawling I will still let you guys use the server like I said I have been paying for it for like 4 years now its not a big deal. the admins can have access, and as long as you get me the files from this board I don't see why I couldn't have it up by Monday the beneficial thing is that we can get this one up until we get the other running smoothly. Lets clearly state what our options are for the software. VB is obviously out because of the cost issues do you think you could list the ones available, with there respective features. I am wrapping up my work I have to get done on my website right now, then I have to clean up a bit around here and I can get going on this if everyone is in agreement. I know everyone seems to be at work still so no rush or anything my hosting service is pretty much open 24/7 so they are ready to work with me all I have to do is tell them what new domain I want and they will set it up for us.

10 bucks a month and see if you can get me a link to that phpbb2 so I can do some research and see what I need to get it up and running. these guys pretty much provide everything as far as server technology goes and they are cheap and have excellent customer service.

I was going to offer a sub forum for this when the thread on RCC first popped up, but Cory took care of the forum and I didn't want ot step on any toes. You could always setup a site and link to this forum from it, which is what I was thinking about suggesting because it's really hard to give people this domain name...lol
[Q]
If you go with phpbb beaware you need to be net savy and stay on top of security, phpbb is the largest freeware forum so it is hacked the most often. Vbulletin couldn't be easier and after working with phpbb and invision I can say vbulletin is by far the easiest and the best forum software I have ever used. But again I didn't want to step on any toes since I believe the creator of this forum software is a friend of Cory's other wise I would have offered forum space at R7R with a Home page under the TXRCRCA domain.
[Q]
Sorry I have not been to active lately I've been busy helping my parents with a bit of trouble and my kids seem to keep getting cold after cold, but if I or R7R can be of any help just let me know, I'm here with any advice and help I can give.

Thats a good point with the security issues ripper, do you know of any "known exploits" that we should pay special attention to with phpbb?
If everyone wants to help with the 160 for vb it will run on my server, so thats not a prob. if everyone wants to keep this as cheap as possible, we should look at the free to cheap bb's. ORR we can just leave things the way they are. either way my services are available.

Well there are a ton of exploits for phpbb and a ton of patches and mods for it.
[Q]
Like I said if it's just the Domain name that's the problem than setup a site using the new domain name and have a link to this forum add a menu bar at the top and there you go. Really it's what I was going to offer, except the forum would have been a sub forum page on my forum. Also keep in mind that database activity is key to a forum, a lot of cheaper hosts have tight restrictions on databases, basically if you get a lot of storage and BW you probably may not have much access to your Databases or you may be on an over sold server both of which can cause slow page loads and or DNS and Database errors. Oh and you will need to make sure you are fimilar with your servers software for backups and database restores, alot of hosts restrict how large the DB file can be when uploaded so you may be depending on them to fix any problems.
[Q]
It can be quite a lot of work depending on the amount of members, I don't envy the guys at scale, they went from a small free forum/server to a rather large site in a few months.

Check it out and tell me what you think. Its working good so far, since I have no domain registered yet I figured I would test it on my other site since its accessible to everyone, everything will work just the same and I can back this one up and transfer it to the new domain if it is liked.
[Q]
I may try a darker theme tomorrow I need to get some sleep its 2:00am, but I'll mess with it some more.

I agree with stang the current forum works, but I do think a site with a proper domain should be created. I also doubt many hackers are looking for exploits for this forum software, it's not always enemies that hack your forum I was hit by anti-american hackers from turkey, which is why I left invision and why scale left it also. But I know of several phpbb sites that remain hacker free, just gotta stay up on security and there are a lot of mods.

the domain is just a domain no one is going to come knocking on our doors say we have to get rid of the domain cause we aren't an offical organization or something maybe if we were going to be handling money, for tax purposes or something but nothing related to the site itself requires anything other then registering.
