Ok I just added the battery applet to my awn dock and was about to remove the battery applet from my system tray at the top but noticed a huge discrepancy. They both estimate how much time i have left but there is a huge difference in the times?
[Q]

System tray reports: 3:35.00
[Q]

Awn batteyr applet reports: 4:14.56
[Q]

so why is this and which one shoudl i trust? is the awn applet over estimating?

1) With "system tray" you mean gnome power manager?
2) What says the normal gnome Battery Charge Monitor applet?

I'm having this issue also. I'm having a large difference between gnome power manager and the AWN battery applet. For example, GPM gives 3 hour 35 minutes versus AWN battery 4 hour 43 minutes. Does anyone know what is going on? I feel that AWN battery is under a slight delay or it is doing a different calculation from GPM.

After studying the behavior for a little bit, I noticed that both Gnome Power Managament and AWN battery applet are reporting approximately the same percentage of battery left, within 1 or 2%.
[Q]

This leads me to believe that they are doing different calculations. Note: I have not looked at the source code to either of these softwares. I may be wrong but I would recommend that the AWN battery applet do the same calculation as GPM.

What do you guys think?

1) AWN battery checks status of the battery every 5 seconds
2) AWN battery just reads the info from HAL.
Try this in your terminal: hal-device `hal-find-by-capability --capability battery`
Basically it divides the current charge level by the rate
3) GNOME's battery applet (not GPM!) shows exactly the same remaining time and charge percentage
4) I don't know what XFCE's/KDE's/ applet say

Hey I just read your post onox and I'm not sure if you clearly understand, so I included screenshots to illustrate my point.
[Q]

So let me begin by stating that these images were taken within 1 minute of each other. I'm not too concerned with off by a few minutes but large differences that I'm referring to.
[Q]

Let's start off with the AWN battery applet. Here is a screenshot of it.
[Q]

[Q]

Now here's the Gnome Battery Applet.
[Q]

[Q]

Now here's the Gnome Power Manager.
[Q]

[Q]

As you can see there is a difference between the Gnome Battery Applet and the Gnome Power Manager. You are correct that the AWN battery applet and the Gnome Battery applet have the same time as they receive data from the same location. Yet, this is different from the Gnome Power Manger, which I feel that it has a better estimate of battery time remaining. The Gnome Power Manager is the one that is normally in the top right next to the speaker icon and such. This icon can be changed in the Power Management option under the [System] and [Preference] option.
[Q]

Anyone know what is up with this.

I understand there's a difference between GPM and the others. I guess I have to study GPM's src in order to determine how GPM calculates the remaining time.

So I just reformatted and installed Ubuntu 8.10. (I wanted to give full hard drive encryption a run. Seems to work pretty well so far.)
[Q]

Anyways, I was checking out the battery situation again. The Gnome Power Manager (the one normally in the upper right) is reporting 3h55mins left at 85% and AWN Battery Applet is reporting 3h59mins left at 84%.
[Q]

I know they are doing their calculations slightly differently, but this now seems a lot better given they are only off by a small percentage. I do not know whether the AWN Battery Applet got an upgrade, or consequently the Gnome Battery Applet (which AWN bases its calculations off of) or whether Gnome Power Manager got updated.
[Q]

Either way, seems to work.

WELLINGTON--The euro and the Australian dollar got a strong boost early Monday after Spain secured a EUR100 billion bailout agreement from the European Union to boost the capital of its battered banks and China's weekend lancel sac pas cher economic data turned out to be far less dire than markets had feared following its surprise rate cut late last week.
[Q]

Market participants said the relief rally may persist for the next few days, but warned that concerns about Greek elections this Sunday will soon start to weigh on the mood.
[Q]

The euro jumped to US$1.2669 early in New Zealand from US$1.2517 late Friday in New York while the Australian dollar nudged above pas cher lancel parity to a high of US$1.0009 versus US$0.9860 late Friday in Australia.
[Q]

Spanish Finance Minister Luis de Guindos said Saturday the European Union will grant Spain a loan of up to EUR100 billion that the government will funnel to banks that need capital. Euro-zone finance ministers said they lancel pas cher welcomed the Spanish step, saying the sum "must cover estimated capital requirements with an additional safety margin."
[Q]

The news is "positive as it's just another ring-fencing of the whole contagion fear aspect," said Auckland-based HiFX Senior Trader Stuart Ive. He added, however, that "it's all about timing" and the EU has likely decided to act given the proximity of the Greek election adjani sac this Sunday and its uncertain outcome.
[Q]

The Australian dollar also benefited from the Spain news, but ASB Economist Jane Turner said thin liquidity due to a public holiday in most Australian states meant moves were likely to be choppy. She said recent strong data in Australia have meant that investors have pared back expectations of further rate cuts "which Louis vuitton sac pas cher is one factor that is going to continue to provide the Australian dollar with some support this week."
[Q]

But while positive sentiment will likely continue for the next few days, Ms. Turner said "we are expecting it to remain relatively short-lived as by the end of the week we are expecting the market focus to return back to the Greek elections."
[Q]

A mixed batch of Chinese soldes sac LanceL data over the weekend, which showed slower inflation and sluggish industrial production but strong readings on exports and imports, soothed concerns about an imminent hard landing in China's economy.
